I have lived in the southwestern area of Chico for over 5 years (neighborhood surrounding Pomona Ave., behind Walnut St. & W. 9th St) which lies fairly close to the train tracks. The train activity in the middle of the night has always been high, and the use of it's horn has always been something to get used to. However, after the Oroville Dam collapse and the Camp Fire(s) is has gotten *Much Worse. We have all seen the reports of increased deaths that have happened on the tracks, and the general assumption is that this is due in large part to drunken revelry but also the large increase in the homeless population along the tracks. A solution to this must be addressed. These trains come through Chico at least once a night, sometimes several times. Every single time they do they blare horns loud enough to be heard in every corner of this city. Sometimes they actually stop due to people blocking the tracks and lay on the horns for extended periods of time. A larger police &/or security presence needs to be permanently posted around the tracks. To help prevent further tragedy & also stop the trains from needing to use blaring horns for extended periods of time in the middle of the night. Thank you.
