4.1. HEARING ON THE NECESSITY FOR ACQUISITIONS OF CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY BY EMINENT DOMAIN FOR THE EATON ROAD/STATE ROUTE 99 (SR-99) OFF-RAMP PROJECT (ASSESSORS PARCEL NOS. 007-390-025 (PRIDDY) AND 007-390-001 (REHKLAU))
The City is undertaking the Eaton Road/SR-99 Interchange Improvements Project (CIP #13023) which will construct a new 5-legged roundabout on the eastern side of SR-99 off-ramps (northbound) and Eaton Road. Because of this construction project, the City must acquire additional right-of-way and temporary construction easements from three property owners.
Agreement has been reached with one property owner; however, agreements for acquisition terms have been unsuccessful with the other two property owners. No building structures or parking areas will be permanently impacted by way of this acquisition and the associated project improvements. This project is needed in order to provide safe and effective infrastructure for the greater Chico community. (Report - Brendan Ottoboni, Public Works Director - Engineering)
Curious why eminent domain is on the table to expand roads to accommodate for profit development, but never even a thought when it comes to transforming blight and vacant lots into affordable housing. It's almost as if you serve developers and not regular people.
